Concave Layers Here’s a variation of concave layering using a pivoting section pattern from front to back. I use over direction into the previous section all the way through so that my shape gets heavier (weight line descends) in to the back crown area. This haircut can be cut shorter for the pixie and longer for the shag (wolf) variations. Work smarter not harder @knowledgedestroysfear @paulmitchellpro Dec 1st - How to cut hair (theory) class. Pixie / Short Concave Layers ⬇️ Here’s a shorter variation of concave layers with a 70’s era glam rock influence. I started on the top with horizontal sectioning cutting short layers following the contour of the head. I elevated my sections up to the ceiling to protect length on the perimeter throughout the hairline in the back and sides. After the blow dry I point cut the top area and used a slicing technique from top to bottom to remove some more weight internally. Hope you like it, comment be

Simple Face Framing Layering (Concave Layers) ⬇️ Here’s a variation of classic Concave Layering getting heavier in the back. The easiest one of them all. Lift up and cut short to long going backwards. Use the round of the head at the frontal area to give you the guide for how steep to cut the angle from front to back. Elevate all sections into the first (to protect your length) Nice and easy. Try it the other way (shorter in the back heavier front) for a different balance of weight. Checkout the

•cutting concave layers• •section into three. two in the front and one in the back. •section inch and a half pulling up to 90 degrees cut a diagonal line which is called concave. Which means shape and movement without making the perimeter less. My clients love these layers most. •section and follow your guide til you get to the back of the ears. •connect from the ears forward but don’t cut all off. Add more of a concave layer. This will leave more hair into front. You ever connect it all and won

Layers ⬇️ Here’s a variation of concave layering that won’t leave the back super heavy like traditional round layering. Section the head into 3 panels. I start in the back using the length as a guide. I cut a line that follows the contour of the head from back to front. In the back I over direct sections straight back to the wall. I continue with this movement into the top which turns into an elevation up to the ceiling, continuously following the head shape with my cutting angle. Super simple s

•soft concave layers• •from back of the ear to ear to the crown is your section. And take pie sectioning all the way around. •pull the hair straight up cut a concave layer which leave the perimeter heavier and movement thru out the hair. These types of layers are what I do most when layering. It works with all hair types and it’s amazing for finer hair types who don’t want to look like the have less hair. •after you have done your concave layering dry the hair straight. •take the same sectioning

Concave Layering is the technical move you need. By combing the hair over and overdirecting it to the center back, we cut against the natural head shape. This creates a collapsed layer and a scooped effect. | Matt Beck

Layering… Pull away from what you want to keep 💡 Here’s a classic round concave layer (shag). As you can see I’m pulling the hair up to maintain the length. And I’m pulling forward into the previous (traveling guide) so that the weight descends into the back. Over direct to the first section (stationary guide) if you want it to be heavier. Cut a more inverted line to maintain more length and weight in the outline. Keep it simple. Work smarter not harder @knowledgedestroysfear @paulmitchell #hai

Tampa, Los Angeles & Puerto Rico Hairstylist on Instagram: "I chose concave layers to frame her face while respecting her density—because movement means nothing if you remove the wrong weight. Every cut had a purpose. Every section had a reason. And the final reveal? That’s when confidence shows up and the transformation speaks for itself. Watch closely. This is more than a haircut—it’s intention in motion. #haircut #hairstylist #layeredhaircut #hairstyle #hairconsultation"
