The fish that caught the pterosaur that caught the fish! Yes, really. Happy #FossilFriday This angry-looking fish is an Aspidorhynchus that snagged a pterosaur (Rhamphorhynchus) that had snatched a tiny fish. They became tangled, perished, and sank into the abyss. It comes from the famous Late Jurassic Solnhofen limestones near the town of Eichstätt in Bavaria, Germany, Not only are the fish's teeth and bill jammed in the pterosaur's leathery wing, but we have at least FIVE of these fish-eat-pte

One of the coolest fossils you'll ever see. The fish that caught the pterosaur that caught the fish! Quite possibly the angriest fish ever, this Aspidorhynchus had snagged a pterosaur (Rhamphorhynchus) that had snatched a tiny fish. They became tangled, sunk into the abyss and died together. When the pair became intertwined, the fish’s teeth and pointed bill became jammed in and had even punctured, part of the pterosaur’s leathery left wing. This is one of the 50 extraordinary fossils featured i

Without a doubt, one of the coolest fossils you'll ever see. The fish that caught the pterosaur that caught the fish! This angry Aspidorhynchus fish had snagged a pterosaur (Rhamphorhynchus) that had snatched a tiny fish. They became tangled, sunk into the abyss, and died together. If you might be thinking, "no, that's just a random coming together". Think again. Hatzegopteryx was a giant azhdarchid pterosaur from the very end of the Late Cretaceous in what is now Romania. Although its fossils are incomplete, estimates suggest a wingspan of around 10 meters or more, roughly 33 feet. Unlike many pterosaurs that were lightly built, Hatzegopteryx had an unusually robust skull and a thick, strong neck for an azhdarchid, suggesting it may have handled relatively large prey on land. It lived in the Hațeg Island environment, where several dinosaurs were smaller

Extinct Era on Instagram: "Hatzegopteryx was a giant azhdarchid pterosaur from the latest Late Cretaceous of Romania, known from the Hațeg region, which formed part of an island landscape with several dwarfed dinosaur species. It lived near the end of the Cretaceous, around 70 to 66 million years ago. Because the fossils are incomplete, its exact size is uncertain, but it is often estimated to have had a wingspan on the order of around 10 meters or more (about 33 feet). Its skull and neck bone
