Meconium staining in sheep and goats "Meconium staining" occurs when a lamb or kid passes its first feces – meconium – while still inside the amniotic sac. This causes the amniotic fluid and the fleece to be stained yellow-green. The passage of meconium in the womb usually indicates fetal distress.
